Arrive in Style
If I had seen this commercial a few years ago, I'm sure I'd have thought it was clever, but probably nothing more. Now, it speaks to me. If it's on, I always stop to watch it. I love the glamour, the feel of decades past, men opening car doors for women, and the clear message that we're in a society that doesn't value the simple life. "We didn't race from A to B, we cruised."
I might be all girl, but I don't DO NOT like to wear dresses. Maybe it's due to years as a pageant kid and wearing dresses that required can-cans? Who knows. I've longer preferred a cute pair of jeans over any other attire. Sadly, I've become a person that wears jeans to church. I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing jeans to church. Heck, come in your sweats if that gets you there. But, for me, jeans in church isn't the attitude or style I wish to portray. Church is something I feel you should dress for. It's a special part of my week, and my attire should reflect that.
This morning...I wore a dress. I chose to arrive in style. Granted, it was $8.99 Ross style; but style, none the less.
I highly doubt my great-grandma Parker ever wore jeans to church, so this still fits my goal of leading a homesteader lifestyle. My self imposed 'no "new" clothes' rule/budget might make this difficult, but I've never been one to shy away from a challenge. My Mom got a dress at Salvation Army yesterday for a few dollars that would've been at least $40 at JCPenney. "New" means brand new, not new to me.
totally agree with the need to get back to style rather than the careless selfish attitude of screw you. the car commercial that really ticks me off: highlander. really? we're going to belittle the part of society who is ok with driving a vehicle that is within their budget that is safe and reliable. i'm sorry but i think it's "cool" to live within your means and outside of materialism. i was always a dork but i'm ok with it!
I wore a skirt to church Sunday, also!!! I totally agree that it does not matter to God if you show up in church in a pair of jeans... He's much more interested in our heart and how we are 'lovin' our neighbors.' But I also agree that maybe our reverence for God may become as lax as how we dress. It's all up to the individual and no one should look down on anyone and no one should compare themselves to anyone else. If folks were as careful to check their hearts when they get up every morning as they are to check their appearance, what a much better world this would be.
I am so proud of you for loving and listening to your Great-Grandmother. I know she is proud of you, too!

So excited you are blogging!!
I only wish I'd have known her before she passed away. I hope she's looking down on me and is proud of the woman I'm trying to become.
